Color different in different programs

I'm using Corel Paintshop Pro, not Adobe. Sorry in advance, I know that may make it harder.
I am editing a photo for a friend. It's a dog, for an ad in the club magazine. It's a professional photo, but she has the rights to edit/use it.
The subjects in the photo, as sent by the photographer is extremely dark. The person is wearing a black suit, and the dog is dark.
I was able with fill flash, plus a little brightness and constrast, to make it look good.
Until I saved it.
Displayed with windows explorer, and apparently her home print, it looks very orange and way overly contrasty. Yet, if I open the photo in Corel Paintshop Pro, or even my email program, it looks fine.
I can't recall ever having this happen - any explanation?
And which is the "real" photo - how would it print? (yes I am doing the obvious thing, just shooting a quick 4x6 to Walgreens to see. Not a quailty deal I know, but the best I have at the moment).
Need to have this fixed over the weekend, I would really appreciate any advice.
