Are you comparing the 24mm @ f/1.4 vs the 14-24 @ f/2.8? Because once you stop the 24 down to f/2.8 which is where the zoom starts, the fall off should be almost eliminated and the corners much sharper. So would the 24mm at 2.8 be worse than the 14-24 at that aperture?
