The $2800 5D3s
Apr 19, 2012

I'm thinking that the 22 MP sensor in the 5D3 was for the following reasons:

  1. More pixels would have required line skipping in video -- binning gives higher video IQ

  2. More pixels would result in a lower frame rate

  3. Milking the old tech of the 5D2 sensor to maximize profit

So, how about a 5D3s with the same AF system of the 5D3, no video, and a FF version of the sensor in the 60D (hopefully improved a tad -- a bit better QE and a bit less read noise, for example) at 46 MP, and 3 fps.

That would be great, and, methinks, require no special effort on Canon's part. It would take sales away from the 5D3, but also take sales away from the D800, making, methinks, a net gain in sales for Canon.

How say you all?
