Would the AF-S Nikkor 28mm F1.8 G be overkill on DX?
Apr 19, 2012

My recent posts have been a plea to find a great quality, relatively small and light wide/standard prime lens for my DX camera. A take everywhere, street shooter setup.

I'm intrigued by the just announced AF-S Nikkor 28mm F1.8 G lens. It likely will produce great IQ and bokeh. But it's not light (over 11 ounces) and not small (compared to 35mm 1.8 DX, for example), partly due to it being a FX lens.

So...my question for this experienced group, is whether this is a suitable match for a DX...or overkill since it's made for FX format. I know on DX it would have a 42mm effective FOV...which seems like a nice all around view. But am I throwing $$$ away and dealing with more size and weight considering I'm sticking with DX format?

Thanks,
Anthony
