The 17-70 is better than the 24-105 on the 60d.

Ive had both . Dont be blinded by the L. Your 60d isnt even weather sealed so the 24-105 offers nothing.:)

24-105 isn't that wide and it's not even anything special for sharpness, my tamron 17-50 and 28-75 were better and cost less and the 17-50 went wider and both had faster aperture. they lack IS but if oyu want IS what about canon 15-85 IS or 17-55 IS or sigma 17-50 2.8 OS?

between the two options you mention siUgma 17-70+tamr 70-300 vc gives a lot wider coverage than 24-105
