To me, the Nikkor 24-70 is the no-brainer choice. I also have the 50mm f/1.4g, and I have a lot of fun with that lens and its big aperture, but, as is well known by now, its focus is slow.
If the 50mm brings in more light what specifically causes it to focus slower than the 24-70mm?
I'm not sure, John, but the 24-70 gets on target much faster and with greater consistency and accuracy. The 50--though I love it--is far more sluggish and less self-assured about its focus.
