I have both of the cameras and 5D3 became my primary tool for last 2 weeks. 1Ds3 has always been great yet it simply has a good successor - 4 years ahead in terms of LCD, AF, ISO, microadjustment, menus, options etc.

5D3 with grip - better AF, you have preselected various AF points for vertical and horizontal shooting - with kids can be essential that you don't need to reselect points when recomposing back and forth.

5D3 you get new with a year of warranty 1Ds3 you get used of unknown past and no warranty.

Additionally some early production 1Ds3 units (2008) had an AF recall (similar to 1D3) and might have problems if were not send in properly at that time. Later units were OK. I had to send mine once in the second recall in 2009 (external AF points calibration) and it has been performing great since then.
