I've used optical viewfinders in rangefinder and slr film cameras since the early '70s. The first evf I looked through was in my wife's Kodak a few years ago and I didn't think it was really all that bad, at least in good light. I bought a G3 2 months ago and the evf is very good in good light. In low light I find it gets quite slow and noisy, but I should point out that I'm talking very low light. I always know I'm looking through an evf, but I'm getting used to it. I will say that most of the time I like it and I use it any time the camera is not on a tripod. I haven't looked through a Sony evf, but I've read they're very good. If there is a store near you that carries the cameras, ask to look through them. I think that's the best way to decide
