Yeah, even if Zeiss is doing it, they're putting a 8mm F2.4 lens, less than 8mm away from a 23 mm diagonal sensor. The light is coming at the edges of the sensor at much sharper than typical angle. It's a big challenge. Does anybody know if something like this has been done before in a digital Camera? If it was that easy to slam even fixed focal length high quality pancake optics up real close to a sensor, Sony would have some flat pancakes for the NEX too, wouldn't they?

The real difference to all the cameras available is that there is no aperture/iris, it is fixed f-stop camera, and there is a single group of lenses!

High incidence angle (photon collection problem) can be corrected by software to some degree, but also in hardware with custom micro-lens array (or something like micro-wedge or micro-Fresnel lens).

PS. I don't have a clue how the camera performs, but I do have high hopes.
