You need circular vs linear so your autofocus system will not go blind. But beyond that you want one that has an anti-reflection coating... it isn't absolutely critical, but better non-the-less. That kit lens is a good one and should be used for most of your photos, so invest in a good filter. The super-dooper coated with angel's breath $$$$ filters are not worth it IMHO. If you're an equipment fetishist with deep pockets, fine. But I've shot tens of thousands of slides and digital images with polarizers and have yet to see a difference between the super class and the standard (coated or non-coated!)... A good lens shade or matte box will prevent flare even better!

Beyond that you might want to find a thin-profile filter.

Holding a camera, any camera, reduces my blood pressure, calms my nerves, and gives me a sense of opportunity!
