CCD and CMOS Sensor Output

Would it be fair to generalize the the output from CCD tends to be more light very high quality film than CMOS does?
For those that know the difference (or notice it rather) between the way the output varies between the two sensor types, I have a question:
Would it be fair to generalize the the output from CCD tends to be more light very high quality film than CMOS does?
My opinion is that indeed CCD looks more film like than CMOS (tight grain film that is).
But what say you?
