Using DXlenses with the D800

I´ve read that the new D800 is able to shoot using both FX and DX lenses. However, before I´ll go for it, I´d like to know wether is it true or not and at which price...

I am prepared to give up of half the pixels (or so) but would like to know which would be the expected results using my 17-55 2.8, 35 1.8 or even the 12-24 f/4.

Of course, I am aware that I´d not loose nothing using the 70-200 2.8 or even the 50 1.4D.
Therefore, I´d like to know your opinions / advices.
