how to flatten roll paper for an Epson 3800

I have always used precut paper for my Epson 3800. But I wanted to print larger so I ordered a roill of Red River Aurora white. I cut the paper to 17x37, the max size.

But it is really difficult to get the rolled edge started. Is there a good way to flatten the paper before? I tired letting it relax overnight while weighted flat. I also tried re-rolling it backwards.

I eventually got it loaded after 4 tries. But there must be a better way.

What I see when I open the image and view it at 100% is very important to my overall attitude toward a final print. When I look at the print I know what’s there and what I had to do to get there. For me, good enough does not work.
