I've been following these "light leak" threads with interest and I have to say that I'm struck by GaryJP's constant attacks in every thread on any person who considers this an issue. Gary, we get it. You don't think it's an issue and you think anyone who does is a foolish dumb@$$ or Nikon troll. OK? Your position is duly noted and you can continue to consider your 5D3 as functionally flawless.
Having said that, light meters are not supposed to be affected by something like this. It is either a QC problem or a design flaw. And despite the fact that some seem to feel otherwise, the issue was discovered because images WERE being affected. Links to some examples have been posted in this thread and others. It is my belief that purchasers of a $3500 camera body should not have to employ workarounds to get their camera meter to work properly in low light.
My favorite argument in favor of ignoring this issue is that it exists in 5D2's and has gone without notice, therefore it should be of no concern. The problem with this logic—and I say this as the owner of a 5D2—is that it implies that the 5D2's metering system does a good job. I've never found the 5D2's exposure meter particularly reliable. I want and expect the 5D3 to do better, not inherit the flaws of its predecessor.
I owned a 5D3 for a week and really liked it. I had to return it due to a different problem. I definitely won't be purchasing another one until this issue is acknowledged and resolved.
