real life DOF, diffraction issues for architectural photography, D800

I am genuinely interested is hearing/seeing the experiences of anyone who has actually shot architectural subjects with the D800 and wide lenses - particularly the 17-35 2.8. I have always been able to shoot at f11 for DOF with earlier cameras like D700/D700/D300, etc without seriously compromising sharpness or refraction concerns. Do real life results mirror the prevailing wisdom that stopping down to f11 MEANINGFULLY compromises quality any more than before, especially through diffraction. Examples?
