Is a top brand worth it ?

The soft box that you get for this table top photography should be dependent upon the size of the object(s) that you will be focusing. Most like a 2 foot by 3 foot one would be good. Experience has taught me that going cheap is not always the best way. A brand name soft box such as Chimera, Photoflex or Wescott are quality products, with a wide variety of speed rings for different flash models. Oriental versions may not be the best quality, nor offer you a variety of sizes so your system can grow as you need it.

You can also do a DIY project and make a frame with white translucent fabric stretched on both sides and shoot any flash through it, especially speedlights or monoblocs without removable reflectors.
