Hope for 300 f4 update

Any opinions as when Nikon might update this hoping with VR and limit focus control. I can't justify the 2.8 in weight and expense right now, not even used. I'm close to purchasing the TC17 for my 70-200 ll but then think I should just get the 300 f4 and skip the TC. An update would decide this immediately.

Any of you familiar with there update timing? I know this is all a pure speculative type question.
