Well, the answer to why I wasn't seeing any difference was as suggested - I should defocus to infinity and refocus after each adjustment before taking the pic.

The reality is, well, I can't be sure of what I'm seeing and so I've done the most sensible thing I could think of...

I've turned OFF fine tuning and I'll try to concentrate on taking pics....
