Kx or KR as back-up?

My son and I are going to a photo trip to NZ. With the latest problem my son is having with the flash and focusing in his K-5 we thought of possibly getting a body only in either Kx or KR. The K-5 is going in for repair
What would you suggest? I have no experience with either one.
