I have to disagree

with your experience. I own the 14-54mm and the ZD50mm too and the difference is quite drastic IMO. Maybe I've got a 14-54mm lemon (or you have a very good one) but the 50mm is superior. That being said, the 14-54mm is really a great lens.

But there is a point for having primes, shallow DOF is one reason but there are many others.
