I don't yet have the V1 Flash unit but recently read a test report of the V1 on the imaging-resource website,
They found the same problem and concluded that "fill is the new auto" and that as the unit is not very powerful, the camera will simply boost the iso to the point where the exposure is correct.
There doesn't seem to be a work around unless Nikon can come up with a more powerful flash unit or find some way of adapting another gun like an SB400, to work with the camera.
