Billy - thanks for your reply. I've tried setting the ISO at a fixed value, but the flash unfortunately insists on fixing the shutter speed at 1/60sec for some reason - often resulting in underexposed image. For example, if I set up the shot without flash at f5.6 (fixed) and ISO-800 (fixed), the camera will indicate a shutter speed of 1/25 sec - which will give a well exposed image (although lacking in shadow fill-in). However, if I then switch on the flash unit, the shutter speed automatically changes to 1/60sec (aperture and ISO remain unchanged) and the image is consequently underexposed. I don't understand what the design engineers were trying to achieve by programming it in this way. Surely, at the very least there should be some sort of underexposure warning - or maybe it's just the term "fill-in" which is misleading. I'm confused!
