I have had this focus hunting issue on my 1 month old Tamron 70-300 SP with my Sony a65. It seems to happen after about 70-80 shots. The last time it happened was a couple of days back in a zoo with bright sunshine. The lens couldnt lock on to a tiger at about 50 yards in bright sunshine(but I was shooting thro' a chain link fence). The lens was hunting across the range. I turned off the camera and started back up after 5 mins and AF was back to normal, but the tiger was gone!!
If this happens again I am planning to send it in for warranty repair.
