If Exposure Delay (menu option "D4") is enabled (0-3 seconds), the shutter fires 0-3 seconds after the mirror goes up. With the camera set to self-timer via the rotary dial and the shutter button pressed the following happens;

1) self-timer delay count down
2) self-timer completes, the mirror goes up
3) 0-3 seconds later (Set by option "D4") the shutter fires.

Not sure if 3 seconds is always enough for vibration to settle down after the mirror goes up.

The above applies when not in live view, which has just got me thinking...
