I hate to ask, but your settings can have a bearing on that, so could you list each setting you use on the shooting and setup menus, and I might be able to suggest something.
Shooting a long zoom camera (you really wanted the long zoom, yes?) handheld can result in blurry photos very easily, so in my case I make sure my hands are steady, then I take all of my shots in burst mode. If you don't want to do bursts and have to deal with all the duplicates, then you're going to have to go to work on those settings as well as shooting technique. Buying a 450 mm zoom camera for someone who doesn't intend to be a proficient photographer is most unusual and a serious challenge.
