Addendum: the problem goes away if you change light metering?

In this case D800 + 60/2.8 macro reveals same problem.

In other posts this guy says the problem goes away if you change light metering, that is matrix, center weighted and spot.

D800 AF issue may not be confined to wide angle lenses.
