Nikon D800 exposure

How do you guys think Nikon D800 handles auto exposure?

Yesterday I took some 200+ images of kids playing soccer. Most photos have dominant green background. Most photos appear to be about 1EV overexposed. There aren't clipped highlights but the photos appear washed out.

I shot aperture priority, matrix metering, AF-C 21pt dynamic.

The D800 doesn't always over expose in other situations. The behavior seems to be very different compared to my D200. I have shot a few seasons using D200 and the exposure had been mostly good.

On the other hand, the flash exposure seems to be more on the darker side but it is in a good way.
