Yes. The answer seems to be that between the original 2X and the 2X III, there are some real differences, but you lose a lot of quality with either.

Between the 1.4X II and the 1.4X III, there are only small differences in CA unless you are using the supertelephotos wherein focusing advantages from the III version kick in.

Just recall that the result refer specifically to the 200/2.8 L. For other lenses the results could be different.
