First effort with Stackshot
Apr 6, 2012

Rosemary photographed at 1:1 with Nikon D700 and 105mm micro. Thoughts:

1. Blemishes on leaves become horribly obvious on the screen.

2. Drunk with power, I selected 80 shots for my travel of about 1 inch. The Stackshot did this just fine, but Photoshop gulped at loading 80 layers into one file for alignment.

It wouldn't go near that - I don't know if this is due to my iMac or to Photoshop CS5.

I had to edit out every 2nd shot before loading into layers. I think this is the cause of a "blurred slice" in the image, particularly noticeable at the end of the broken leaf and on the blemished one.

Next time I'll try 40 or 50 slices from the start. This still requires plenty of time for the computer to process and I needed about 75GB of hard disk space free.

The gear has trial versions of two other stacking programs with it, so I'll also try them: Zerene Stacker and Helicon Focus.
