Sigma 18-250, my samples and opinion
Apr 6, 2012

I did get it for a good price recently.

Full size samples at:

Feel free to download and pp.

Positive: stabilised EVF, HSM for video, nice sharpness at WA even wide open, zoom range, nice colors, lower F stops than other superzooms at WA (16-105, 18-270?), cheapest superzoom right now, well build, hood included

Negative: AF sometimes wrong (only at low F stops and dull environment), cam (A55) chooses 1/400 sec. at tele end in A-mode and auto ISO (but this is not the lens' fault), unsharp upper left corner at F3,5 (will send it to Sigma for correction)

Soso: weight and size (can be plus or minus), zoom lock (but quite fiddly), sharpness from 200 mm up

Conclusion: this will be my nice weather walkaround lens. Works perfect for travel and is well suited for my average shootings.

Tip: use shutter priority to control the speed and use the focus magnifier (or playback) to check critical shots at low f stops. Leave it at F8 (or higher) and it is a no brainer at all zoom steps in good weather.

P.S. I am able to use my 72 mm polfilter since I still have a 17-70 OS HSM (which is even better)
