As others have said, AF with EA1 is not practical. The trade off is that EA1 does not reduce the light to the sensor like the EA2 does. Thus, the choice is:
EA2 = fast AF, but lose a stop of ISO noise performance
EA1 = no AF, but no ISO noise penalty
