Definitely the shorter lens will be more useful for parades and incidental photos. For my trip last year, I used the 24-105 for 85% of my shots - would have liked wider sometimes but didn't miss out on anything.

If I could make one suggestion, I found the most useful item to be my flash and used High Speed Sync A LOT for the outside shots. Not sure what Paris is like at this time of the year but I found that the flash helped to fill in the Florida-shadows that were so dominant when I was there. Just gave me a bit more control over the lighting..
