I was looking at what is available and I am amazed that at this point in time there are no recently designed (for the digital era), affordable, lightweight 35mm F2 AF/s FX lenses available from either Nikon, Sigma, Tamron or Tokina.
I have the 35 F2 AIS and AFD. The AIS on is not bad but hard to focus MF in dim light. The AFD is soft at the edges and only good close up.
I may have to break down and buy the new 35 1.4 AFS but it aggravates me that there isn't a solution for under $500 for what was once considered an alternate standard lens to a 50 1.8.
Is there one out there that I am not aware of?
You're not missing out. Affordable f/2 FX wide primes have always been a huge hole in Nikon's line up.
The 35/2 is fine if you don't mind stopping a bit to f/2.8 or f/4. But then again, if you don't mind f/2.8, I think the current crop of pro zooms do a better job.
There's a rumored 28/1.8G that might be released in 2012, but not sure if that's too wide for you or not.
