Here's my experience with the GPS so far. I tried the GPS very briefly last weekend. I enabled GPS, got a GPS lock, and then shut off the camera. When I turned off the camera a message was displayed indicating that the GPS would remain on and would cause some battery drain even with the camera turned off. Several minutes later I turned on the camera again and the GPS indicator showed a lock in about one second. I only took two test shots with the GPS turned on and it looks like the position data was reasonable accurate (within 30 feet or so). I intend to compare with a Garmin Colorado at some point but haven't got to it yet.
I also tried recording a GPS log. When I turned off GPS recording and tried to save the log the camera locked up. I had to pull the battery. The log I was trying to save was lost. I haven't had a chance to try it again.
