UWA on the D800
Apr 4, 2012

Hey all,

The subject is ultra-wide angle lenses on the D800.

Facts and semi-educated guesses:

1). Probably cannot afford to get the 14-24, which of course is ideal

2). Though I don't know for sure, I don't think I want the 17-35 on the D800 (and it's almost as costly as the 14-24 for an older lens anyway)

3). All signs point to the 16-35 f/4, though many complain of softness, particularly in the corners?

4). Recently discovered the Tokina 16-28 which seems to have almost as good a reputation as the 14-24, but for half the price. Filters probably not going to happen though.

What do you recommend? I think I'm pretty much between the Tokina 16-28 and the Nikon 16-35. I've never bought third party glass, but the Tokina ultra wides seem to get glowing recommendations from almost everyone. I don't use a lot of filters besides a polarizer right now, but concerned I may want to use them more as my landscape photography hobby grows. What would you/have you do(ne)?
