For what it is worth:

I have the Sigma 10-20mm and like and use it a lot, but I still have and use the Canon 15-85.

Since I also have longer lenses (Canon 70-300 DO and Canon 100-400) there is overlap with all my lenses. The 10-20 overlaps the 15-85 which overlaps the 70-300 which overlaps the 100-400, but, given that I mainly use the camera for landscape and travel shots, the 15-85 stays on my camera most of the time. It is my main lens and I only use the 10-20 when I need it (which is often).

Given that I would not worry about the overlap.

Thanks for your advice. The general gist of everyone who has replied is not to worry about the overlap; which I'll take on board. I think the 17-55 is preferable in my situation to the 15-85 due to it's speed. Also, knowing the way I work, the 17-55 will ensure I continue to use the 10-22 extensively.
