I have found that if you have shot a 7D, which was Canon's truly complex and baffling AF ancestor to the Mark III, you should find that Canon has cleaned things up quite a bit with the 5D Mark III, making it both powerful and fluid.

They really made the extremely capable autofocus system of the 7D waaaay more accessible in this iteration, all the while adding more points.

From spot focusing to action tracking (the two extremes of autofocusing), all AF options are much more repeatable than in the 7D as well.

(If you don't like the Mark III, then certainly don't ever bother with a 7D!)
