Please tell me why an outdoors shot looks great but my lighting shots are terrible?

On your indoor shotm leaft the light coming in from the left as is. Use a large softbox to the right of your camera (just next to it, slightly higher than the lens), about 1 stop less light than the main. Also try a snooted, out of focus light from the left, so it illuminates the background, giving a soft flood light look behing the instrument. This helps to define the edges of the instrument.
