Perfect travel camera with FX and DX modes
In reply to Starred, Apr 2, 2012

I have two kits, a 12-13 lb. FX kit and a 8-9 lb. DX kit for travel. I often take the lighter and smaller DX kit as with a business trip to Germany and Austria last week. With the D800 I can take one camera and either DX or FX lenses or a combination of the two.

I would be able to take the D800 with the 24-70mm for general use at the 20MB or 36MB settings and the smaller and lighter 10-24mm for wide angle using the DX mode of the D800. Same would apply to having the option of using either the 70-200mm f2.8 or the Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 depending upon the nature and destination of the trip (50-150mm for people and the 70-200mm with a teleconverter for wildlife photo destinations).

This also applies to taking the D800 with an extra battery or taking it with the battery pack and an extra D4 type battery for a higher fps if likely to be needed (as with wildlife photography).

Icing on the cake is the option for video and sound recording with the D800.
