What to replace Kit lenses with?
Apr 1, 2012
Be keen on your thoughts.
I have the 55-250 & 18-55 EFs, as well as the 10-22 and the 85 1.8.
I'm getting into birding & sports, and would like to replace my 55-250, which - although has reasonable IQ - is a bit slow in focusing and a bit short in range.
I'm looking at the 70-300 4-5.6 L, or perhaps the 100-400L (although the 100-400 is a little larger than I'd like).
I find myself pretty much never using the 18-55, because it's too slow and the IQ is average. I'm thinking of replacing it with the 50 1.8, (or possibly the 60 2.8 macro).
The above set up would leave a large focal gap on either side of 50mm. (i.e. 10-22, 50mm, 70-300mm). Currently I don't live in the 22-55mm range at all, and I'm not really concerned about that. But what am I really missing - should every photographer have this range covered?
