I have over the years bought and sold every APS-C DSLR I had, Canon, Pentax, Nikon. Only kept the D3 throughout. My search for a compact alternative to FF was always spoiled by a) still too much bulk, b) crappier lenses (e.g. 16-85mm vs 24-120mm on FF) c) suboptimal high ISO and shallow DOF abilities).
The true compacts, OTOH, just weren't good enough, and also got sold, given away, lost, whatever.
Sofar, the V1 is good enough, it's limitations are reasonable compromises for me. I chose it because it can focus properly, vs. the other mirror less offerings. Controls are something to get used to, but nothing is perfect.
When I was too lazy to carry the D3:
