Huh? Why should anyone think so? In terms of SNR the D4 is always 2 stops ahead at pixel level (DxOmark's "screen" setting), similar when both are scaled down to 8MP ("print"), for DR the D800 is superior until ISO 400, then the D4 wins easily.

All of which is completely in line for what those cameras are made for, with better noise performance at image level on the D800 than anyone should expect (shadow tone/colour integrity is a different matter).

I think it's funny to accuse the D800 buyers for pixel peeping, while the D4's superior noise performance shows up exactly doint that, not so much at an image level!
