If I'm about to photograph architecture interiors, I'd pick the tripod, the lens is less important.

If I'm at a party or something casual with friends and it's time for fun, I'd pick the f/1.2 or f/1.4 with AF.

If I'm traveling or in need to take many pictures quickly and I can't deploy the tripod & stuff, I'd choose an wide or ultrawide IS lens if it exists and really works handheld at 1/2s & 16mm (full frame talking)

Oh, and if it's about an payed assignment that has to look real good and hi quality I'd deploy the lights right away.

Anyway, as an investment in general photography, a lens such as the 35mm f/1.4 or the 24mm f/1.4 is a better bet in my opinion.

Some video guys might tell that an IS prime lens works better for them, I don't know, perhaps, they know better.
