I take it you've seen these sites? I'll include just for completeness:

http://www.slashgear.com/sony-prepares-new-aps-c-compact-camera-rival-to-canons-g1-x-21214653/

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-a-sony-surprise-a-compact-camera-with-aps-c-sensor-and-fixed-zoom/

I wouldn't be surprised. This is the area where a Company like Sony means it. Look how aggressive they've been with Alpha/Nex. I've had a try out on the Nex7... it's amazing, simple as that.

Compact APS-C would seem a way to inject new life into the compact market. The Fuji X100 having been a 'surprise' hit, and Asia, by far the biggest market has really taken to the Nex. There's shekels to be made, and that is what will really drive what appears on the shelves.

My last two cameras have been made by electronics, rather than camera giants, both have been outstanding. I talked to my Dad about this, an old pro who's heyday was the 50s and 60s, He said when he bought his first Japanese camera, he was roundly mocked, The others in the office claiming loyalty to Leica and Rollie. I wonder how many pros today use anything other than Canikon?

Hard to see it changing just yet, but anyone who doesn't take Sony or Samsung seriously... I think they're going to see the ground shifting. Can you even imagine what their R&D or advertising budgets are?
