I use the focus points all the time on my 5D's. Especially with shallow DOF. Which the focus recompose method doesn't work great with. I always used to focus recompose with my film cameras. But moving the FP is deffinately the way to go. However - I prefer the wheel to the joystick for point selection as you can select a point by looking at the top LCD panel, where as the joystick method you need the camera held to your eye. I have found the joystick method a bit tricky to become accustomed too.

If your asking should you learn to do it. Deffinately YES.

Cheers

James
