Wedding/portrait lens advice 70-200 VRII or prime?
Mar 28, 2012

Hello everybody.

I'm usually photographing portraits, but from time to time I'm shooting weddings or landscapes.

I past I had Nikkor 24/2.8 supported with Sigma EX 50/1.4 and 85/1.4. I sold these three lenses and bought Nikkor 24-70/2.8 instead which is more versatile.

Now I'm deciding which new lens to add.. the 1st alternative is 70-200/2.8 VRII, but many people complains about weight and size of this lens and that it's not good for everyday shooting.

The 2nd alternative is Nikkor 85G/1.4 AF-S which is great portrait lens, but sometimes I find myself in situation where 70-200/2.8 would be better.

The 3rd option is 14-24/2.8 for indoor shots, but I'm more in need of good portrait lens.

So what do you think? Is 70-200/2.8 better for weddings or should I go with 85/1.4 or something else? Thanks for your opinion.
