Picked up my D800 this morning. An immediate observation.

Picked up my D800 from local Ritz camera in NJ. Yeah, somehow UPS ended up delivering it on time despite pushing the shipping date back.

I brought it home and took it out of the box. Didn’t mount a lens. Didn’t insert the battery. I just held it. And...

...it’s not particularly comfortable to hold.

The grip is certainly tall enough, but it’s also narrow in the hand. And I have a very average size hand (from the base of my palm to the tip of my middle finger is about 7.5 to 7.75” in length).

Unlike the EOS 5DMk3, whose grip has a convexity in the front part to help ‘fill’ your hand, the D800’s grip is just flat on the front and doesn’t give the camera a very positive seat in your hand, especially with a heavy lens on it.

The EOS 5DMk3 is quite a bit more comfortable to hold.

Anyone else make this observation about the D800’s grip?
