Sorry for the delay. Yes that is the concept, the meter sees a lot of dark and just one color of bright and tries to split the difference but simply cannot hold the highlights. I find that Spot Meter and linking exposure to the focus point can help as well. RAW is a must as well, the ability to change the WB is a lifesaver!
