Old Rebel XTi or new bridge SLR?
Mar 27, 2012

Hi everyone,

I have a big dilemma. I'm planning to go travelling in a few months for quite a long time and I'm not sure what to do about the camera choice.

I have old Canon Rebel XTi with a few lenses but don't fancy carrying them all with me so initially was thinking of buying a superzoom lens (Tamron 18-250 was my first choice but I couldn't find it anywhere and new 18-270 was bit too expensive). I only have a budget of about $500 so some of the better lenses on the market aren't within it.

Then I started looking at bridge SLRs and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 or Nikon Coolpix P510 seem like something that could be a good choice.

I know that some might consider it a step down from DSLR but could it be a good trade off for travelling? Would picture quality be worse or maybe better?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Nikon Coolpix P510
