50mm-100mm lens for panoramic shooting- advice?

I shoot urban landscape photos in low light (dusk and at at night). I print large panos- 20+ feet wide- by stitching dozens of images together. I currently own a Rebel T1i with kit lens (18-55mm) and have had the best success shooting at f16- 55mm. I want to upgrade my equipment- 5d Mark III and a new lens. I'd like a lens that will offer excellent sharpness at F16. I've done tons of research (especially L-series prime lenses 50mm, 80mm and 100mm) but my head is spinning- are any of these actually sharp???? If you can offer any advice or lens suggestions they would be most welcome. I'm willing to spend up to $2000.

Canon EOS 500D (EOS Rebel T1i / EOS Kiss X3) Canon EOS 5D Mark III
